Our Green Initiatives

Starting a bike sharing service as an apartment company is probably not something you see everyday. Nevertheless we believe it's the right answer to the growing demand of micro mobility in our area and our efforts for a greener and more eco friendly community.

In the area around the BOOK-IT apartments many of our guests struggle to find a vehicle in order to get them around town and explore Erlangen. This is mainly due to the fact, that the Röthelheimpark is an area outside the city center, which makes it relatively unattractive to mobility provider, since it won't create a significant demand for micro mobility. Especially for our guests there is a demand to quickly rent a bike and get somewhere like the city center and back to their apartment. The chance of finding a bike in front of the building is quite low.

We wanted to close that gap while making the most of the offered vehicles, meaning, opening them up to the community and our guests. The drop off zone will always stay at our properties which will ensure that guests can access them easily.

BOOK-IT bikes is our contribution to better mobility for guests visiting our apartments but also for our employees, friends and neighbours to take a ride if they need one.

We have been thinking about this idea for some time and now it will become reality: We are launching a bike sharing service. Erlangen wants to minimize traffic pollution and we are here to support it. We are going to start offering bikes from 2024 on. This will enable our guests to explore Erlangen and the region more freely and move easily between our apartments and different locations in the city. Stay tuned. For many years, we have been trying to get the permission to build a photovoltaic system on the historic Apart. Many years it was not possible due to certain legislation that forbids these systems on historic buildings when it can be visible from the street. Luckily things are changing on a bigger scale in Germany and legislation opened up a way to realize this project. We are now working on realizing this big project that will drive us towards more sustainable energy production in our office and the historic Apart. More news to come soon!

Nothing is more annoying than riding around with a bad maintained bike. Since we noticed more and more guests using or even bringing their own bikes, we decided to support their effort in using micro mobility to get around Erlangen. We put up the iBombo repair stations for bikes at all of our locations! You will find one in med Apart, one in east Apart and one for historic and first Apart. We hope you like them as much as we do!

With more and more electric vehicles on the streets in Germany, we decided to further grow our charging infrastructure and build several new Wirelane charging points in the parking garage of the first Apart. If you are staying with us in first or historic Apart and would like to charge your car, contact us for a parking space in the garage and charge your car there!

We came to the decision that it's time to switch away from plastic packaged shampoo and soap solutions to more sustainable products that enable us not only to use more eco friendly ingredients but also reduce waste that is produced by all of this single packaging. We hope you enjoy the new products and their smell. We currently run with two systems: We are trying non liquid products in the east Apart where we offer body and hair wash as one product and a hand soap as another product. In other buildings we also included refill shower installations to also serve our longterm guests with longer lasting body wash. Feel free to tell us what you prefer!

We are convinced that especially since social housing is so limited, we can open up space for refugees from Ukraine. Not only is it a human thing to do but it is also a more sustainable solution since we are convinced that the commercial sector needs to contribute to the problems of the housing market. We know that most hotels and apartments don't work on a 100% occupancy but they avoid giving up space since it brings some complications and possible losses in peak times. We try to live an example what can be done. We hope more companies like us will follow and allow more refugees to live in nicer places than mass accommodation.

You can always spot our company cars easily. They have a very iconic design and BOOK-IT in huge letters on them. Since 2018 we focus on climate friendly mobility within our fleet. Most of our company cars are either fully electronic or hybrid cars. And we also believe in prolonging the lifecycle of these cars, meaning we refrain actively from getting ourselves the latest models but instead keep on using our beloved i3s until we can't do it anymore. That's because we believe, we have to stop short lifecycles and fast turnover of items.
